BLUE LANTERN |
|
This is a story of sex and corruption in Hong Kong.
A restless young police recruit from Glasgow is torn between
his love for beautiful Chinese woman doctor, and a sexy but expensive bar girl. He needs more money than he earns.
He gets it by taking "squeeze" money extracted by the police from the gangs who run gaming, prostitution and drug-dealing.
But once into the racket, he finds he can't get out. He tries. The police machine turns against him, and a warrant is
issued for his arrest on corruption charges. He has to resolve his chaotic love life, but he also has to run. It is 1967,
and the background is the Cultural Revolution riots which shook the colony.
Blue Lantern is the colloquial Cantonese name for the Hong Kong Police, and means 'the light which gives no illumination'.

CARING FOR CATHY |
A man without a past and a woman without a future.
This is a story of friendship between a young musician, David, who lost his memory in a car accident, and an older woman, Cathy, who is dying from Huntington's disease.
Both are, in Cathy's words, "marooned on an island of misunderstanding", confined to Denby Hall, a pleasant, unconventional neurological nursing home near Brighton.
Denby Hall does not allow pets, so David takes it upon himself to help Cathy to see her dog occasionally. As David's efforts stir up trouble at Denby Hall, the nature of Cathy's relationship with those closest to her are revealed.
Caring for Cathy is a light-hearted look at the horrors of degenerative disease and its effect on those who care.
